This project is a deep dive into the influence of the Porcelain Tower of Nanjing. Fascinated by the pattern frequently seen on takeaway boxes, I traced its origins back to the tower, uncovering how this architectural gem influenced Western designs, even inspiring structures in Britain's Kew Gardens.

I visited the site to study the tower’s historical significance and its architectural nuances. Drawing from these observations, I crafted a series of collages and a poster that reimagines the tower’s splendor. The artwork represents a cultural dialogue, merging historical insights with contemporary artistry to reflect the enduring impact of the Porcelain Tower.
This project was created in 2018.
Hans Christian Andersen referenced the Porcelain Tower of Nanjing in his fairy tale "The Garden of Paradise". In this story, he described a young man named East Wind who flew from China and danced around a porcelain tower so vigorously that he made all its bells ring, reflecting a sense of wonder and fascination with the East, symbolized by the Porcelain Tower.

This project seeks to explore the cultural and historical significance of the iconic structure.
